![]() Now it´s time for Femina, the 4th album of the The Legendary Tigerman, released in September 2009. Those short films are projected in teh live shows and give the audience some smooth cinematography through Tigerman´s music, as a soundtrack played in real time.īeing so connected to cinema, the Tigerman loves to face cameras he got a cameo on renowned directed Werner Schroeter´s film Une Nuit de Chien, which has its premiere at the Venice Festival 2008.īut he´s also into film soundtracks - just finished the OST for Tebas, a film directed by Rodrigo Areias. The album Masquerade includes an extra DVD with short films directed by the likes of Egar Pera, Paulo Abreu, Rodrigo Areias and Paulo Furtado. But is also about cinema and photography. The Legendary Tigerman as all about music. Masquerade reached the US market through get-Hip Records in November 2008. Having released one photography book & remixes album - In Cold Blood (sold out) - and 3 albums since he was born as The Legendary Tigerman - Naked Blues (2001) : Fuck Christmas, I Got The Blues (2003) : Masquerade (2006) - all had international distribution. at the end of the festival he had played 7 shows on 7 different stages 1 Having played in most of the world, everywhere the world on the street was " there is this guy that plays alot of instruments at the same time, and blends the past with the future like there´s no today in his music ".Īt Fuji Rock Festival in Japan, he was given one slot for one show. But we always feel like a riot is about to explode and we can´t guess when, such is the tension he brings onstage. The consequences of this blend are explosive and brought him exposure in Europe, USA, Brazil and Japan.īeing a one-man band, it´s hard to think of a live show as something that has a lot of stir, but, in fact, it has ! There is something of a punk attitude in the Tigerman shows. Well, the Tigerman has the roots but he also combines it with the new technologies - samples, beats, loops, always keeping it real, playing the instruments live. The, in the 21st century Paulo Furtado became The Legendary Tigerman.įollowing the tradition of the old blues-men, this one-man band literally jumped from Coimbra, Portugal to the world. Somewhere in the Mississippi´s delta, one man just started playing the kick, the hi-hat, the guitar and the kazzo, all at once. As for cover material, there are versions of Lee Hazlewood's "These Boots Are Made for Walking" and Baker Knight's "Lonesome Town," plus bonus track versions of Danzig's "Thirteen" and Daniel Johnston's "True Love Will Find You in the End.First there was darkness. Standout performances include "Life Ain't Enough for You" with Argento, "No Way to Leave on a Sunday Night" with Lee, "I Just Wanna Know (What We're Gonna Do)" with Cibelle, and "Hey, Sister Ray" with Rita Redshoes. They include Cibelle (Brazil), Peaches (U.S.), Becky Lee (U.S.), Lisa Kekaula (U.S.), Asia Argento (Italy), Phoebe Killdeer (France), and five Portuguese vocalists. It's a testament to Furtado's reputation as an iconic Portuguese rock guitarist, going back to his decade-long stint with the Tédio Boys in the '90s, that so many reputable female vocalists show up on Femina, 11 of them in all. In the meantime, his band Wraygunn grew more successful with each album, hitting the Top 20 in 2007 with Shangri-La. ![]() Though not big sellers, his previous Legendary Tiger Man albums, Naked Blues (2002), Fuck Christmas, I Got the Blues (2003), and Masquerade (2006), were well-received critically and led to a tour in support of Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker. Splitting his time between the Legendary Tiger Man, a one-man band solo project, and Wraygunn, his full-time band, Furtado has been a busy man in recent years. As multi-talented as he is, vocals aren't one of Furtado's strengths, and in a way, it's nice to hear him cede the spotlight to various female vocalists from around the world. At the same time, it minimizes his frontman duties. One of Furtado's most enjoyable releases to date, it showcases his behind-the-scenes talents as a songwriter, guitarist, collaborator, and producer. Femina, the fourth Legendary Tiger Man full-length, is a duets album pairing multi-instrumentalist Paulo Furtado with various female vocalists on a mix of originals and covers in a bluesy garage rock style.
